https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/feb/26/vodafone-to-track-users-in-ghana-to-halt-spread-of-epidemics-ebola ~Article 1~ Vodafone, a British telecommunications company, has announced its partnership with the government of Ghana to use information about the movement of its customers to track down the spread of epidemics. This is done by providing the company's vast real-time tracking data of its Ghanan customers to the country's government. Vodofone has stated they will make the information about who they are tracking anonymous to the Ghanan government, so that only information that people are spreading whatever virus is being tracked is given to the government. This allows for the rights of specific people to not be breached, if all goes according to plan. Vodofone has also stated that analysis of the data obtained can help future stopping of epidemics, such as the Ebola virus. Information gained from the next epidemic can help with modeling how any future epidemic afterwards spreads. Sadly, in considering the whole protecting-privacy thing, one privacy expert stated though it may appear that Vodafone is protecting individuals from identification, they will have to try very hard to keep from breaching people's rights. It's also possible that Vodafone, while thinking they completely anonymonised infomration, actually didn't.
